Livestock Shipping & DOA Policy

1. Overview
Reefing Canada Inc. ships live marine livestock, including fish, corals, and invertebrates. Because these are living animals, special handling and conditions are required to ensure their safe arrival.
This policy outlines:
- Shipping procedures
- Delivery requirements
- Dead on Arrival (DOA) claims
- Customer responsibilities
- Limitations of liability
By purchasing livestock from Reefing Canada Inc., you agree to the terms outlined below.
2. Shipping Methods
A. Live Arrival Shipping
All livestock is shipped using:
- Overnight or priority express service
- Insulated packaging
- Oxygen-filled double bags
- Temperature control measures (heat/cold packs as required)
Shipping carrier selection is at our discretion to ensure the fastest and safest delivery.
B. Shipping Days
Livestock is shipped:
- Monday–Wednesday (to avoid weekend delays)
- Weather permitting
- Subject to carrier availability
We reserve the right to delay shipment due to:
- Extreme weather
- Carrier disruptions
- Regulatory inspection delays
- Animal health concerns
Animal welfare takes priority over delivery speed.
3. Customer Responsibilities
To qualify for Live Arrival or DOA protection:
- An adult must be present to receive the shipment on first delivery attempt.
- Packages must not be left outdoors.
- Livestock must be opened and inspected immediately upon delivery.
- Proper acclimation procedures must be followed.
Failure to meet these conditions voids DOA eligibility.
4. Dead on Arrival (DOA) Policy
We guarantee live arrival under the following conditions:
A. Claim Requirements
To file a DOA claim:
- Notify us within 2 hours of confirmed delivery time
- Email clear photos and/or video
- Photos must show:
- Livestock in unopened original bag
- Shipping label visible
- Clear view of deceased specimen
Claims submitted outside the 2-hour window will not be eligible.
B. Resolution Options
Approved DOA claims will receive:
- Store credit for livestock value
OR
- Replacement livestock (when available)
Shipping costs are non-refundable.
We do not issue cash refunds for DOA claims.
5. Non-DOA Losses
Once livestock is:
- Opened
- Acclimated
- Placed into your aquarium
Reefing Canada Inc. is not responsible for mortality due to:
- Improper acclimation
- Poor water quality
- Incompatible tank mates
- Aggression
- Temperature shock after unpacking
- Existing disease in customer system
- Equipment malfunction
- Salinity mismatch
Marine livestock is sensitive, and success depends on stable system conditions.
6. Weather & Temperature Policy
We reserve the right to:
- Delay shipments during extreme temperatures
- Require upgraded shipping methods
- Cancel orders if safe shipping conditions cannot be met
Live arrival guarantee may be void if customer insists on shipment during unsafe weather conditions.
7. Shipping Delays
We are not responsible for carrier delays caused by:
- Weather
- Mechanical issues
- Customs inspections
- Airline delays
- Acts of God
If a delay occurs, we will assist in filing a carrier claim where applicable, but live arrival guarantee may not apply if delay exceeds guaranteed transit time.
8. Quarantine & Health Disclosure
All livestock is:
- Observed and quarantined prior to sale
- Monitored for feeding response
- Inspected for visible disease
However:
We cannot guarantee livestock is disease-free once introduced into a mixed-species aquarium.
We strongly recommend:
- Independent quarantine by the customer
- Gradual acclimation
- Stable water parameters
9. International & Imported Livestock
Some livestock may originate from international suppliers and are imported in compliance with Canadian regulations.
Import delays may impact availability.
Species availability is not guaranteed due to:
- Regulatory restrictions
- CITES requirements
- Supplier limitations
- Seasonal collection changes
10. Order Refusal & Risk-Based Decisions
Reefing Canada Inc. reserves the right to refuse or cancel livestock orders if:
- Shipping conditions are unsafe
- System compatibility concerns are evident
- Customer aquarium appears unsuitable
- Regulatory concerns arise
Animal welfare is our priority.
11. Limitation of Liability
Our liability is strictly limited to:
- The original purchase price of the livestock
We are not liable for:
- Tank crashes
- Chain-reaction losses
- Emotional distress
- Lost future livestock
- Equipment damage
Marine aquariums are inherently complex biological systems.
